Congregation

Portland Taiwan Lutheran Church, a.k.a (PTLC), is affiliated with Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Since we are a more Taiwanese oriented church, bi-lingual service is adopted since the establishment of PTLC in 1988. Taiwanese and English are the two languages used for the congregation per say. The following lists are the breakdown of our congregation:

  1. Church Service
    The regular church Service begins at 11:00 AM and ends at approximately 12:30 PM every Sunday no matter rains or shines!
    The successive sequence of entire service is as follow:
    • Singspiration - Short rehearsal of biblical hymns to start the service.
    • Prelude - Introductory ritual with music, lighting up the front candles, and silent prayer.
    • Invocation - Spiritual preparation for the words of God
    • Hymn
    • Confession/Forgiveness/Thanksgiving - Prayer by sermon moderator
    • Responsive Reading
    • Anthem - Normally presented by choir group
    • Scripture Reading - Selected bible verse related to sermon topic
    • Sermon/Communion(First Sunday of the Month) - Words of God
    • Prayer - Presented by Pastor
    • Hymn of the Day - Selected hymn of the week
    • Confession of Faith - Verbal confession taken from Apostles' Creed
    • Offertory Prayer - Thanksgiving for the offering
    • Announcement - Weekly announcement
    • Doxology - Ending hymn
    • Benediction
    • Postlude

  2. Choir
    It consists of 4 groups. They are as follow:
    • Man
    • Woman
    • Young Adult
    • Combined Choir

  3. Young Adult/Youth Group Fellowship
    Some activities considerated but not limited to,
    1. Bible study / sharing - Weekly verse and thought.
    2. Outreach activities - invitational style gathering for Non-Christians. BBQ, special events, etc.
    3. Seasonal field trip - hiking, camping, sightseeing, skiing, etc.
    This group meets weekly at 7:30pm Saturday, location rotates among member's home. Please contact our group leader Francis Lo at francis_cloud@hotmail.com for more information.

  4. Family Service
    It is held at least once a month at the volunteer member's house. The date, time, and type of sermon are designated by members who volunteer. The Educational Outreach staffs are responsible for contacting and organizing the activities.

  5. Bible Study
    Bible Study is held at church education house every Wednesday at 10:00pm, and Saturday at 6pm. Please contact Pastor Hsieh at (503)686-8014 for further information.

    The Women Bible Study meets once a month. This group is lead by Mrs. Chao.
